APEGS, the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan, uses an online competency-based assessment (CBA) system for the evaluation of your work experience. Besides providing validated examples to demonstrate each of the competencies, you need to have a minimum of four years of experience validated in this system.

Having known what the APEGS CBA system is, let’s know how to report your work experience in this system.

How to report in the competency-based assessment system?

Get to https://competencyassessment.ca.

Choose the section of ‘Applicants’.

Adhere to the instructions appearing on the screen

Make an account using your APEGS Application number/Registration as your User ID.

Pick ‘Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan’ as your jurisdiction.

An email notification will be sent to you upon the approval of your account. It may take at most 5 business days. The authority approves these accounts manually M-F 8:00 to 5:00.

Reach the system by choosing ‘I am a registered user and would like to access the Competency Assessment System’.

Start putting in your information adhering to the instructions that appear on the screen. This time, your educational information doesn’t appear in the competency-based assessment system.

If any problems come up, contact the authority.

After the assessment of your work experience, you will get the result by mail. If you don’t pass it for the first time, the authority will provide you with an opportunity to redo any competencies that didn’t fulfill the requirements.

You should get your APEGS experience reporting assessment result within 6 to 8 weeks after the completion of all validations. If the authority doesn’t accept your validators, it will notify you. After that, the validation process will be redone.

Paper-based reporting:

If you have already begun reporting your work experience in the old paper-based system, then you can complete your work experience reporting in that system or, ideally, switch to the new competency-based assessment (CBA) system. In the case of not having already begun your experience reporting, you must use the CBA system.

You should get your assessment result within a period of six to 8 weeks after the submission of your report. If there are any errors or omissions in the report, APEGs will let you know, and you need to submit the report again.

To be kept in mind: The authority will not accept paper-based work experience reports. APEGS must get all interim and final paper reports by 31, December  2023.
