Studies show that there is no clear link between exceptional academic performance and future success. Why there is no point in striving for good grades

Nobody will ask about the grades
No matter what the teachers say, in the future, no employer will ask whether you had an A in chemistry at school or how Nobody cares about formalities: real knowledge (which, if necessary, you will be tested with the help of questions or a test assignment) and work experience in the speciality are valued.

There are very few situations in life in which high scores will be important, and all of them are related exclusively to study. For example, in order to enter the desired university, you will need to gain a certain number of points on the exam. Good grades at the university will give you the opportunity to get a scholarship and qualify for certain bonuses, etc., but once you graduate, grades cease to play any role.

Dating is more important than fives

A huge advantage provided by educational institutions is the opportunity to find like-minded people. Already at school, especially if you study in a specialized class, you find people close to you in spirit and interests. Later, studying at the university, dating becomes not only pleasant but also useful. The people you have been a couple with can become outstanding in their field in a few years. If you keep in touch with teachers, they can also recommend you to their colleagues or arrange an internship.

Successful people who focus only on getting grades often cut themselves - they just don't have the time. While other freshmen order an essay help and go for fun, they rush home to prepare the best essay from a non-core course or repeat the lecture a third time. As a result, the most talented students find themselves in a social vacuum, not knowing where to go and to whom to offer their knowledge.

High bar creates stress

Trying to achieve the perfect result in everything, schoolchildren and students are exhausted by unreasonably heavy loads. The further away, the less energy remains, and the anxiety only grows. They do not ask for help, ordering work in the terrible for them. The need for perfect learning is mixed with the fear of misleading parents and teachers, who set students as an example, foretelling them a great future and all kinds of success.

In the end, the excellent students drive themselves into a corner. On the one hand, they do not have the resources to continue their studies at the chosen pace. On the other hand, they cannot afford mistakes and failures and spend even more time preparing tasks.

Such behaviour leads to nervous exhaustion and, paradoxically, to a lack of faith in yourself and your mind. Despite all the achievements, excellent students begin to consider themselves lazy and not smart enough. The slightest mistake is perceived as a catastrophe that can eventually lead to depression.

"Unnecessary" knowledge will disappear anyway
Most students cram their tickets the night before the exam and forget the information they receive as soon as they leave the classroom with a student's record. As a rule, excellent students prepare much more thoroughly, systematically studying everything that the teacher tells. The knowledge gained in this way is better consolidated, but it also disappears if it is not interesting and is not used. Stubborn pupils and students spend a lot of time preparing and memorizing formulas or terms, but in the end they remain in much the same position as others. Moreover, information really important for further work can be lost.

It turns out to be much more useful to immediately filter the acquired knowledge, highlight the necessary ones and filter out the unnecessary ones, and because of this, “enthusiastic C grade students” often become more successful - those who spend time only on favourite subjects.

No way to focus on interests
Excellent students should be equally successful in various fields: writing essays is as good as solving algebraic problems, and knowing optics no worse than the history of the Romanov dynasty. In such a situation, there is no way to focus on what is really important and interesting. Moreover, excellent students often do not know what their strengths and weaknesses are, what they want to do.

As a result, it turns out that they are familiar with a wide variety of areas, but they do not study any in depth and do not become real professionals in anything. At school, this sometimes makes it difficult to decide on the choice of a university, even at the level of direction: how can a teenager understand if he is a humanist or a techie, if both are given A's? And in a university, difficulties may arise with specialization and further work, when classmates focused on one topic will find themselves in a more advantageous position.

Despite popular belief, being an excellent student is not all that useful. Instead of striving for the ideal in everything, capable students are better able to learn how to achieve balance. It is worth deciding which subjects are actually interesting and needed, and devote maximum time and attention to them. Do not forget about rest and communication with classmates - this seemingly senseless pastime can turn out to be much more useful than the hours spent on writing the perfect essay “Ways to hide from a nuclear explosion”.
